How About Our Own Anarchists? SAN Francisco lias had an Anarchist outrage, which has been responsible for the killing of seven people and wounding of fifty others. This recalls the record, in the way of destruction of human life, of the great earthquake and fire of a few years back. Ostensibly a protest against "militarism," militarism in the shape of the war preparedness propaganda, the outrage was probably the work of some half-cracked Anarchist alien. 'Frisco has a curiously mixed population, including ai very dangerous foreign element. "What mischief such an element can achieve in a great city was proved many years_ ago in Chicago by Johann Most and his associates! A lot of sentimental, gushy sympathy was extended to the Chicago Anarchists, who were pictured as martyrs in the cause of "liberty, fraternity, and equality,'' but were merely criminal lunatics. » * * * Of late years Anarchical activity in the United States has found its main outlet in the lawless propaganda and deliberate criminality of the 1.W.W., an organisation which, as we know, is not unrepresented in New Zealand. We can be certain that some day or other this Dominion will not witness similarly insane crimes such as those committed in America. We have men right here in Wellington who openly spout sedition and do their utmost to persuade the more ignorant and foolish working men to defy the law. . Between threatening a "general strike" and preaching "direct action" by the explosion of infernal machines there is, after all, very little real difference.
