Senator G. F. Pearce, Acting-Prime Minister for the Commonwealth of Australia, recently announced that, as the result of further information from Canada, it had been decided to cancel the direction given to the departments last November not to purchase from the Ford Motor Company, of Canada.- Ltd., Ontario. The Minister added that Sir R. L. Borden, Prime Minister of Canada, had advised that the Ford Company of Canada was distinct from Mr. Henry Ford's Detroit Company. Mr. Ford owned a quarter of the stock, but the manager and the majority of the directors are Canadians. Sir R. L. Borden added that he believed that Mr. Ford's views about the war were not shared by the ""Canadian Company, which loyally supported the Empire. Consequently the Canadian departmental instruction not to purchase from the Ontario Company was no longer in force. Mr. W. Perry intimates elsewhere thai he has just taken into partnership Mr. Herbert Linklater (late chief clerk in the office of Messrs. Gray and Jackson). ' Both members of this new legal partnership are well and favourably known in the realm of sport. Mr. Perry has been an active and prominent member of the Wellington Rugby Union for many years past, and Mr. Linklater has done some very useful service for the sister branch of sport, cricket, as secretary of the Old Boys' Cricket Club. Besides this, both gentlemen are sound and shrewd lawyers, and, no doubt, will get their full share of public support. The firm of Turnbull and Son (architects) invite tenders for alterations to premises at Newtown for the Bank of New Zealand. Mr. J. A. Bruce and J. Lush, x who have for have for so many years been identified with the business of Messrs. W. H. Turnbull and Co., estate agents, sharebrokers. valuators, and insurance agents, have just taken it over from Mr. W. H. Turnbull, who is going to serve his country at the front. Messrs. Bruce and Lush need no introduction to the business public. They have won their spurs, and are held in the highest esteem on the Rialto as able, energetic and courteous men of business. Mr. Bruce has made a specialty of sharebroking, and Mr. Lush holds secretaryships for various companies. The property department is in the capable hands of Mr. W. H. Brewer. There is no doubt the new firm will worthily sustain the reputation of their predecessors Tenders for troopship canteen stores are invited by the Assistant-Quarter-General.
