HE Hutt Park Racing Club, ' I which; is gaining in popularity with th© racing public, will hold j& meeting at the old Hutt racecourse to-morrow (Saturday). Nice average fields axe engaged in the different ■events, and the winners should be hard to pick. Excursion trains will inn from the Lambton station, and ladies are admitted free to all parts. . The summer carnival of the lington Racing Club took place on Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday last, when- some interesting racing . took .place'.. , Thfere were large crowds present on the three days, who appeared to thoroughly enjoy the sport provided. Some ffair dividends were paid on the Jaespective winners. Grucdinella won the Wellington Cup in'good style, . a<nd Mr. Mcßeth, of Wanganui, and Mr. M. .Gardiner, the mare's trainer,* many congratulations oai their success. Mr; Mcßeth purchased Charenta at -fche Sylvia Park sale, at Auckland, for ■63 guineas, and she proved in foal to San Francisco, with the result that she produced Grucinella, who - has won •many races for her popular Wanganui . ofwner. Charente. was by Nordenfeldt from La Dauphine, so Crucihella .has all th© elements that . go. to make a successful turf performer, and she should wiii some' more races. * Equitas, who gave a sorry exhibition at Awapuni recently, and whose running was inquired into by the . Manawatu Racing Olu'b, with the result that the people behind Equitas were absolved from all blame, showed quite a. different style of racing at Trentham/, and in. marked .contrast to its efforts at Awapuni. The mare was quickest out in the Telegraph Handicap last Saturday, and ran' home first in. the slick time of lmin 14 l-sth sees. The many friends of H. Jackson, the Feilding trainer, was glad to- hear of the success of Adria- in the Foxton Cup, which mare is trained by him. The mare ran a good second to Milan at Pahiatua, and she returned a eutn stantial two-figure dividend at Foxton. There is quite a little history attached to a. small black Shetland pony that is used by Hr. Goodman, the wellknown Trentham trainer, for riding purposes. The pony is twenty years old, and was bred by Mr. McMaeters, at his sheep station, near Timaru. At that period, J. W. Lowe, the Tremtham trainer, was entrusted with the task of securing a pony. After some considerable difficulty Lowe succeeded in driving a mob of ponies, into- an enclosure, and from them Mr. McMasters seleected a robust pony, which he presented to Mr. Goodma-n, who at the time was a prominent Southern trainer. From that long time ago the pony has remained in Goodman's possession, and, although there have been many changes, Mr. Goodman values the pony as his most cherished possession. Now that the W.H.C. meeting is concluded, the stewards of that club are going into the matter in- connection with prominent racing people neing mixed "up in pony racing. Some interestirug developments are expected. Mr. Kingston, of Masngaterere, Hawke's Bay, was present at the Tren-t-ham fixture, and- he informed -the writer that he was shortly putting Erl King into- work, in view of coming hurdle events. He. added that he was disappointed with LamsdorfE's recent efforts, and he was thinking seriously of turning the Stepniak horse cat for a spell. W. Ryan, who' is attached to J. W. Lowers Endeavour Lodge stable, at Trentham, rode a creditable race on Crucinella, timing his run to- a nicety, and landing the rich prize in good style. Succession did not run up to expectations at Trentham. hut it is expocied that the Conqueror -mare will soon see a better day. The summer meeting of the Foxton Racing Clrub took place on Saturday and Monday last. Good fields were engaged in the different _ eyents, and some good racing was witnessed, the finishes in several of the eveints bting close. The Cup was woe by Adria, who was followed home by Parable and Milan in thie ■...laces.
