Athletics.
The combined banks celebrated Empire Day by holding theiT annual sports and football match on the Athletic Park, in the presence of about 800 people, including a large per oentage of ladies. A varied) prograanine of events was successfully carried out, and the Bank of New South Wales, by gaining 11 points, holds the Challenge Cup for the ensuing year. The pirmcipal event, 100 yards championship, was easily annexed by H. Heindetrsom (8.N.5.W.), with R. Bridge (8.N.5.W.) second, in the fast time of 10 2-sth sec. Henderson has won this event twice in succession. The 220 yds handicap was won by H. Willis (B.N.S.W X wath R. Bridge (8.N.5.W.) second, while in th© 100 yards' handicap these positions were reversed. The other important events were tlhe tug-of-war, won by the Bank of New Zealand, and a half-mile handicap, won by Smythe (Union. Bank) after a hard fight with Malfxoy (8.N.5.W.). The programme ooaioludjed with a relay race, contested by four rrnners from each bank. The Bank of New South Wales team (MaMroy, Bridge, Willis, and Henderson) lsd all the way, and won by 50yds. The annual football match, combined banks v. Bank of New Zealand, was won by the former by 5 to nil, Malfroy (8.N.5.W.) sewing, and Burns (8.N.5.W.) converting During the afternoon tea was dispensed, and in the evening the prizes 1 were presented at the_ annual smoker. The greatest praise is due to the indefatigable secretary, Mr. Teiinent (Bank of Australasia), and his assistant, Mr. Revell (Bank of New South Wales), for the excellent arrangements.
