STEAM SERVICE JNEW ZEALAND TO SOUTH APRipA. m ENDERS are invited by the New X Zealand Government — First, for a direct steam tervioe between NewZealand ports and South Africa; seoond, for a service between New Zealand ports and South Africa, via Premantle, with permission to call at one other port in Australia. CONDITIONS. The Contract to be for a period . of two years. The service to be six-weekly. The steamers to ba not less than three thousand five hundred tons register, and their draught, when loaded, must enable them to discharge at wharves at South African ports. Lighterage, when necessary, to be paid by contractor*. The steamers to be fittedL with refrigerators to carry frozen meat, and dairy produce. Tenderers to state the maximum amount of refrigerator space. Tenderers to state- maximum accommodation for live stock. The steamers to have minimum accommodation for twenty saloon and twenty-five steerage passengers, and to provide suitable space for mails. The speed of steamers to> be not leas than ten knots (ocean going), with penalty and bonds on a scale to be arranged, but not to exceed £500 per voyage. The steamers to load "at four selected ports in New Zealand in geographical order, and to discharge at the three following pots in South Africa: Durban, Port Elizabeth, and Table Bay. ' The rates: of freight from New Zealand ports to South Africa shall not be greater than the following:: — Wheat, at per ton weight, 27s 6d. Flour, at per ton weight, 275. 6d. Barley, at per ton weight, 27s 6d. * Oats, at per ton weight, 27s 6d. Bran, at per ton weight, 30s. potatoes, in sacks, at per ton weight, Potatoes, in boxes, at per ton of 50 cubic feet measurement, 30s. Hay, oaten or meadow, pressed in" bales, at per ton of 50 cubic feet measurement, 32s 6d. Horses and full-grown cattle, £10 10s each. Frozen meat andi dairy produce at current summer rates ruling; between New Zealand and London. Other goods at rates current between New Zealand and London. The rates of freight from; New Zealand to FreinantLe must not exceed the rates current from time to time from Sydney and! Melbourne to Fremantle. Tenderers to state. What period of time required before berthing the first steamer in New Zealand, such time to count from 1 the date of acceptance of tender. Tenderers are required to state the different amounts of subsidy letraiirad per voyage for either of the services. Should any dispute arise over minor points, the matter in dispute shall be referred 1 to arbitration. Marked, written, or telegraphic tenders addressed to the Secretary for Industries and Commeroe, Wellington, New Zealand, or to the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London, will be received up to and! including the 31st January , 1906.
