Amateur Athletics.

A Committee meeting of the local centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held on Friday, 18th instant. Dr. Newman was in the chair, and there were present Messrs. Ross, Coffey, Pollock, Pollock sew., Cardale, Robinson, and the secretary (Mr. J. B. Speed). A Ground Committee for the championship meeting was set up, consisting of Messrs. Larkin, Cardale, Ross, and Cbffey. The Ground' Committee arrange this week a list of officials' for the meeting on the 9th. Baird, of Ashhurst, is coming down for the "putting the shot." The local athletic club have a large number of men in, training. It is rumoured that Arthur Williamson, of tht A.M. P. Society staff, and once a prominent runner, is "coming out" again. Athletics m other parts of the colony appear to be in a healthy state. Entries are already pouring in to the secretary from all parts. Campbell, of H.M. Customs 1 Department, has been appointed delegate to the centre for Nelson district. The Wellington amateurs have decided to hold a meeting in March. Promises of substantial support have been given and, in fact, a> rosy futuie is bofore the club.
