On Satuiday — the second iace day — our mmds were greatly exeicised as to our toilettes- — vanity made us look longingly at our muslxns— common sense pointed to warm tailor-mades, and, just a« we were resigning ouisehes to fate and warm clothes, out cajne the sun, and for half an horn he shone light merrily — the only half-houi's sunshine we had all day by the waj However, we were not to be decened, and the majority of ladies wore cloth frocks, and were glad of it. A bright and pretty entertainment was given in aid of the prize fund, by the pupils of St Francis Xavier's Academy on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings The' Exchange HaJJ was ci ov. dod on each occasion. The periYimance opened with a duet on two

pianos, well rendered. Then the curtain rose on Fairyland, and for an hour or two we followed with great interest the adventures of "The most disagreeable Princess in. the World." All the performers acted remarkably well, especially Miss Moran, as the "Witch," Miss L. Beere. "King," Miss Wardrop, "the disagreeable Princess," and a page Miss L. Wills, who was most graceful— a tiny child, with her tinier fairy attendants — acted and sang charmingly. * • • At different intervals, duets and dances were introduced ; the "Irish Jig" was especially good, and was loudly encored. Two violin solos by pupils of Miss Moran were splendid, and one by that lady herself was thoroughly enjoyed, and won an enthusiastic encore. A most amusing farce, entitled "Lot 49," followed. The performers acted surprisingly well, the Misses F. Moran, Hickey, Rees, Ataok, Patterson, Lebett, Wright, and Seabury taking part m it. Mathieson, of Eketahuna (nee Miss Laura Fisher, the popular contralto singer), has met with a buggy accident, and sustained serious injuries. Her many friends will hope for a speedy recovery • • • A marriage of much interest to the knights of the "stack and rule" was celebrated at the Wesley Church on Thursday, November 7th, when Mr. W. J. Carman, of the printing firm of Messrs Wright and Carman, and fourth son of Mr. P. J. Carman, Inspector of Machinery, was married to Miss Gertrude Burd, second daughter of Mr. W. C. Burd, of the railway stationery stores. The bride looked charming in a gown of cream silk delaine, trimmed with lace and ribbon, with the usual veil and orange-blossoms. The two bridesmaids were Misses Lily Carman (bister of the bridegroom) and Helen Burd (sister of the bride), and wore cream figured delaine frocks trimmed with silk and ribbon • * * The bridegroom was attended by his brother (Mr. Arthur Carman, third engineer of the s.s.
