POLICE INTELLIGENCE.
[Til SHAY.] [Before Trios. 15i:ckham, Esq, K.M.] VAGRANCY, George Ri.x, George Nichols, ami John Joucs were charged with vagrancy, and were each sentenced to one week’s imprisonment, with hard labour. LARCENY. Thomas Fitzgerald and Charles Bartlett were charged with stealing a quantity of wearing apparel value about £l3, the property of Captain Fisher, of II M ’s 40th Regiment Several witnesses having been examined, the Court decided to acquit the prisoners. The men were accordingly discharged. OBTAINING MONEY BY FALSE PRETENCES. J. Duval was brought up charged with obtaining from Mr. Benjamin Hill, ihe sum of £4 by false pretences. The prosecutor deposed that lie kept tan hotel at Waihu. On the 17th Feb , the prisoner went to his hotel and stayed there three days. On the morning after his arrival lie asked witness whether he could change a him cheque for £4, and he did so, ami afterwards discovered (hut the defendant had no account at the Bank. Prisoner jdso gave him a cheque for £l. which was likewise found to ho worthless on presentation at the Bank. He was fully committed for trial.
