NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.
A General Government Gazette was published on Friday, the Ifitli instant, but contains few Items of interest. The byelaws and regulations for the port of Napier arc published ; also, notice of registration of the Otago Daily Times and Witness Company (Limited) ; notice of intended application to tbe General Assembly for an act to empower the Superintendent of Otago to construct a railway to bo called “ The Otago Southern Trunk Railway,” &c.
COMPENSATION CLAIMS. By a notification published elsewhere it will be observed that on and after the 31st March instant, those persons whose claims for compensation for losses by the war in this Province h-.ve been recoinmen I ! to the consideration of the Government by the Commissioner, Mr. Beckham, will receive one-third of the sum so recommended; on application at the Provincial Treasury. The claimant will be required to enter into a bond for the repayment of any sum now to be advanced, in case it shall appear, upon the re-investigation proposed to be made, that the claim is not valid.
