be just and fear not; Let all the ends thou aini’st at, be thy'Country’s, Thy God’s, and Truth’s.
Ix the Provincial Council yesterday, Message Xo. 60 was brought up from his Honour the Superintendent relative to the interview between himself and the City Board deputation, I which had waited upon him the j day previously, and in that I message 1 1 is Honour proposed ! a number of resolutions which were considered seriatim by the Council, and which were, after some discussion, passed. '1 he resolution of the greatest importance, however, was the first, in which his Honour stated that the sum of £7,000, out of the £50,000 loan to he advanced to the City, would be handed over to the City Board on the Ist of April next, for the purpose of erecting a market place on the site of the Old Supreme Court-house. The j fourth resolution suggested that the control of the water- j works should be handed over, to the City Board, upon which ; some discussion arose, Mr. t Swanson objecting to he ham- j 1 wP 1 ? these works at all; but Mr. Bain, in a temperate speech, pointed out that the City ought to he well content to do as desired by his Honour in this matter, and he, for his part, would support the resolutions conveyed in the message. Mr. Carleton stated that the resolutions must be taken as a whole and not divided ; that it one passed all must pass, as it was in fact but one motion—and, after much discussion on the subject, the House divided, when the sense of the members was pretty well ascertained by a majority of 10 to 4 in favour of the resolution. The other resolutions were also passed, so that we may now congratulate the City upon the probable filling up of a want long felt, viz : the erection of a market house. We were glad to observe that the country members were unanimous hi vain-g-for the resolution, and, indeed, as men of sense they could not but see the vast amount of benefit it must necessarily confer upon their constituents generally.
