ODD FELLOWS' SPECIAL SETTLEMENT SOCIETY.
An adjourned meeting of the Odd Fellows' Special Settlement Society was held in the Odd Fellows Hall on Thursday evening. Mr. Robinson was called to the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary (Mr. Derrom) placed before the meeting a map of the waste lands at present surveyed, and also stated that the Tauhoa block of 45,000 acres, in the Kaipara district, had been recommended to his notice. Mr. Place asked why the idea of forming the settlement on the Thames or Waikato district, had been abandoned for the Kaipara, where he believed the land was much inferior. The Secretary replied that the block had not been decided upon, but having been recommended to his notice, he could only inform the meeting of the circumstance. The Chairman suggested that a committee be formed to carry out the thorough formation of the Society. It was proposed by Mr. Flace, and seconded by Mr. Faulkner, " That the sum of 2s. 6d. be paid as a deposit on becoming a member of (he society." Proposed by Mr. MeLeod as an amendment, and seconded by Mr. Mills, " That a sum of 4s. be paid for the same purpose." The amendment was carried. After some remarks from several members on the arrangem?nts to be made for future meetings, the meeting adjourned.
