IN pursuance of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New /calami, intituled “The Reguhitions of Elections Act, 1 808,”1, William Bkutuam White, Esq., Returning Ofliccr for tlic Electoral District of Mongonui, do hereby give notice that by virtue of a Writ, bearing date the twenty-seventh day of January, 1866, issued under the hand of his Excellency tlio Governor of New Zealand, an Election will be held for the return of a qualified person to serve as member of the House of Representatives for the said Electoral District, and that the nomination of Candidates will tuke place at the Court House, Mongonui. on TUESDAY, the 20th day of March, 186(5, and that the Poll (if necessary) will be taken on FRIDAY, the twenty-third day of March, 1860. ENTLEMEN, —As yon will soon vx ho called upon to elect a member to represent your interests in the General Assembly of New Zea'and, I beg again to offer myself as a candidate for your suffrages. Having attended in my place in the House of Representatives, as your member during the whole of the last Parliament, I am conversant with the various political plans and organizations that have existed, or exist,which hoar on your interests, and those of the Province at large. v\s a Marsden settler, I am also familiar with your wants and wishes, I and should you do me the honor of I again electing me your representative, i I will not fail to support those measures j which I know and feel will be to your advantage, and oppose those which I believe will prove detrimental to them. I am strongly in favour of Separation ; I think that on the attainment of this, the prosperity of the North depends. 1 will be prepared to support, I therefore, any proposal for complete j Separation from the South Island, and I withdrawal from the influence of Southern politicoes. It will also be my endeavour to en- | courage the introduction of population J into the Province, and to promote (bo | permanent settlement of the country ; on the success that may attend the I effort in this direction will mainly de- ; pend the future prosperity of the Province of Auckland, and especially of Marsden, which so much needs a resident and improving population. I am induced to come forward and again offer my services to you, at the request of a large number of the electors, and with the approbation, of several of the most influential of my late colleagues. Should you dome the honor of returning me us your representative, it will be my duty, as it lias been my pleasure, to co-operate in all things with my brother representatives, for your benefit and that of the Province.
