The Loan. -It is stated, on crood authority, that the present mail has brought out intelligence of the two millions unguaranteed loan hj iving been ncgociated. New ZbatandExhibition Committer —The New Zealand Industrial Exhibition Cornmittfo met on Saturday last, Major Eleaphy in the chair. The minutes of the last reading having been read and confirmed, Mr. King read some 'correspondence which had taken place since the last meeting. He said that there had been some applications for space sent in but that there seemed to "be a strancre apathy' amon ■ the people generally about this exhibition. He thought tint the members of the committee ought to get as many contributions as they could, sent in as soon as possible as it was time to pet the catalogues ready. Mr. Harrop then moved that the Secretary he authorised to make arrangements for holding the exhibition of articles to be forwarded to Otaa;o conjointly wiih the horticultural flower show to beheld on November 24. The following enclosure relative to the fares to Otago and rate of freight there were read, after which the committee adjourned : Dunedin, July 4, 1804. To the Commissioners for the New Zealand Industrial Exhibition, Dunedin. We, the undersigned, as agents, hereby agree to take passengers and goods for the New Zealand Industrial Exhibition at one fare, and freight for the double journey. Disgraceful Occurrence. —A most abomiiiabh practical joke was played last night Some jiersoi took it into his head to put some gunpowder into th< pipe of his friend. {After his pipe had been sou; tiin* lighted it exploded, nearly, if not altogether, cuusra; the loss of his eyesight, We have not been able t< ascertain the names of the parties. The accident oc curred at the end of the wharf, near Queen-street. Poor Living. — A man of the name of.Al«xandet Wilkie was brought into the po'iee guard-room ys terday evening by some civilians, who took him i charge on account of his eccentric behaviour in Queenstreet. The man evidently was somewhat lightheaded, and was removing portions of his clothing o the plea that they were burning him. Fie remarked that he had been poisoned, and male other »s.s< it,; • of an equally peculiar character. Larceny.—A man who gave his name as William Smith gave information at the police-office yesterday morning that he had been robbed of £l2 in a brothel in Chancery-street. He says that he went into the house, and after sitting there for a short time sent out for something to drink, and on feeling in his pockots for some money found that it had all disappeared. He immediately gave information to the police, %vho at once took the matter in hand.
East Tamaki Railway.—Various ten lers for the works on this line are advertised in this day's issue. Cricket.—A scratch match of this favourite game took pi ice on Saturday afternoon last, in the Albert Barrack-square, between two elevens of the Royal Artillery. The particulars of which has not "yet reached u«.
The Prince of Wales Theatre.—The drama of the " Will and the Way " was played at this theatre on Saturday night last. The ae ing of Miss Fanny Young, Mr. C. W. Barry, and G. W. Daniels was much applauded. The performance concluded with " A Haunted Room in the Q.C.E.," in which the spectral illusions in various forms were exhibited.
