Cameron.—Referring to the attack made upon General Sir Duncan Cameron by the United Service Gazette, the Eawlce's Bay Herald of the Bth instant says:—General Cameron may afford to despise such attacks. If he cares for the confidence of the ministry at home, he knows that he possesses it; it he values" the good will and hearty admiration of the New Zealand colonists, he feels that it is his; and as for tho troops under his command, officers and men, he deserves and enjoys their lore and almost adoration, from the day when, bare-headed and unarmed, he led the advance, cap in hand, cheering and waving them to follow to their first victory under his command. A soldier of the Ist Pa. Cavalrj, in the Potomac army, was a short time since found asleep near Warranton, Va., having slept 24 hours. He stepped up to hi* captain and said, " Captain, I die to-morrow at 4 •'clock, and the war will end in June. You have no more for me to do." As the clock struck 4on the following day he died without a groan.
