THIS Publication seeks, through the medium of entertainment to convey instruction, and to that end its contents will embrace Original aud Select Tales of Fact and Fiction, Sketches of Travel and Adventure,—Essays on Subjects of general interest, among which will appear occasional contributions illustrative of the character and habits of the Maori Race, and descriptive of their remarkable Legends, and Poetry,—Hints on Domestic and Rural Economy, especially adapted to this Colony, Selections from the works of the the favourite authors of Great' Britain, France and America, —Notices and Answers to Correspondents, Anecdotes, Enigmas, Charades, Conundrums ; —the News of the Week, Reviews of Literary and Artistic productions,—Music and the Drama, Original Facetiae and choice extracts from the Comic Publications of the day, and in addition an Illustration of Varied Character will appear Weekly on the title page. The features thus enumerated show that great variety is aimed at, but this variety it is hoped will be pervaded by oneness of design, each detail having its appropriate place, and its due bearing upon the general result. Eor the production and conduct of this journal the services of a numerous and competent Staff of Literary, and Artistic Contributors have been secured, and the several departments indicated will each be presided over by a gentleman of acknowledged ability. The Publisher is also fully conscious of the important advantages to be derived from the literary contributions of the general public, and he will gladly insert such articles, or sketches as may be forwarded to him on subjects of local or general interest. Excellence will be at once recognised, though unheralded by a name, and the aspirant for literary fame will meet with due consideration and encouragement in a word, no effort will be spared to increase the interest, and extend the popularity of this journal; and the Publisher trusts, by a judicious combination of light and amusing productions with more solid literature, to prove that Wisdom, and Mirth are not, necessarily—unmarrigeable personages. Subscriptions :—2ls. per Annum, 12s. per Six Months, and 6s. for Three Months, payable in advance.
