Thursday, October 14tii. [Before T. Beckham, Esq., 11.M,] drunkards. Thomas McManus, Henry Killen, ami Alice Chamberlin, were tiueil ss. each and costs, or 24 hours hard labour for drunkenness. John Drury was lined 10s, and costs or 48 hours for the same oll’ence. Friday, October 15th. STABBING WITH A BAYONET. John Hayes, a private of the Waikato regiment, was charged with having committed a violent assault at the Whan Hotel, on Monday, tiro 12th instant, upon Nathaniel Sadleir of the same regiment, by stabbing him in in the right hip with a bayonet. The Commissioner of Police applied for a remand until Monday next and handed in a certificate from John Wood, surgeon, which stated that Nathaniel Sadlier of the 2nd Battalion of the Waikato regiment was confined to his bed and unable to walk, from a bayonet wound, and that he was not likely to walk for the next week, on account of the inflamed and tender state of the injured part. Mr. Naughton also stated that a remand was requisite in order to produce witnesses. The prisoner stated that the wound was inflicted in self-defence, and he should require the attendance of the barman who witnessed the occurrence.
