Brown, Campbell & Co., sold by auction at their stores, No. 3, Burton’s ale at £6 ss. the hhd.; Whitbread’s XX ale at £4 2s. 6d. to £4 ss. ; Byass’s bottled ale, 9s. to 9s. 6d. the dozen, ditto porter, 10s. 3d. to 19s. 9d. the dozen; Victoria stout, 10s. 3d. the dozen; No. 3 Burton’s ale, jars, 11s. 3d.; ditto pints, 6s. lid. to 7s. 3d. Mr. S. C. Phillips held a sale of various goods at Messrs. Bucholz & Co.’s store, the importers. The company was larger than usual and all goods fetched a remunerative price. Gingerbread in japanned tin cases fetched Bs. 9d. to 9s. 2d. ; ditto tops and bottoms, Bs. 6d. to 9s. 6d. ; paper hangings made from 6d to 9d per piece. Mr. Samuel Cochrane, by order of the Superintendent, colonial stores, sold at his stores, Fort-street—several hhds. of rum at 2s. 9d. per gall. He also sold a quantity of Sydney pork at from sd. to 6d. I)}., and butter from Wanganui at Is. 111.
MR. BUCKXAND’S REPORT. Mr. Buckland reports a continued demand for good horse stock at high figures particulary for heavy draugiit, good riding horses are in request and with difficulty obtained, even broken down stock arc saleable, on Saturday 40 horses were sold.
The cattle sales have been very heavy during the past week, large numbers having arrived fnom Wiuku, Pukekohe, and Wairoa. Prices for store cattle has fallen from 15s. to 30s. per head. Best class steers alone, maintaining previous rates. Fat cattle have fallen ss. the 100 lbs. At the Triangle on Tuesday, 341 head of cattle were sold, and at Newmarket on Thursday, 195 head. Dairy cows alone have maintained their place, there has been a large nuinbe brought forward and late prices has been obtained for their The sheep market has been fairly supplied with stock, lat prices fully sustained. At the Triangle 2* 0 were sold and a Newmaik t 235. Ewes and lambs in their wool bring fror 40s. to 465. the couple ; fat sheep from 31s. 6d. to 62; each; lambs from 16s. to 335. each. No pigs in the ma ket. They would command extreme prices. MESSRS. STYAK AND HUNTER’S WEEKLY REPORTS, Horses. —The market was very poorly supplied, no goc horses of any kind having been offered. In consequem there were very few transactions. Hacks sold at £8 10 to £lO. Fat Cattle. —The market was plentifully supplied wit good beef, which realized fully the rates of the previor week. The beasts were chiefly from the coast and inter! We quote bullocks at £l2 10s. to £lB 7s. 6d. ; cows, £ to £l7 10s. A lot of heifers from Napier, £ll 12s. 6d. Fat Sheep were scarce. Those sold fetched 345. 355. 6d. Dairy and Store Cattle. —The former, very scare the latter not in such demand as the previous week. T1 prices were not so good, and in consequence, many lots wei withdrawn. We quote Dairy Cows at £lO to £ls; ‘-pnngers, £1 to £l2 155.; Steers, (stores), £8 10s. to £9 2s. 6d. Heifers, (stores), £6 7s. 6d. to £lO. Store Sheep.—We sold two lots of Lwes and Lambf at 20s. 3d. and 21s. per head. Fat and Store Figs.—None of any consequence u the market.
