COROMANDEL.
[FROM OUR OWN CORRESI’ONDENT.] Nov. 12. On Monday there was a rush to Kikowhakarire, but. owing to the very rough nature of the ground and other tinning difficulties to be overcome, but few claims were marked out ; a party of four men are working a leader in this creek, in which at times they can see gold, the creek is used by Mr. Calloway for driving logs to bis steam saw mill. On the same day the Sub-Commisioner went to the Waiau to measure out claims for Messrs. Woodin and others who have struck a reef in this neighbourhood. The United Company have taken up a claim on the small leader which crosses the Driving Creek, (Ring’s Diggings,) at least a quarter of a mile from any other claim ; the locality is undoubtedly good, and all the quartz views here are well worth a trial. Gibson’s in No. 13, are as usual getting a large quantity of very rich stone and many other claims arc paying handsomely; but the favourite of all, seems to be Murphy’s claims, on the reef of that name. On Monday I went'down the shaft, and at eight feet from the surface the reef appears to he about three feet wide, and at the depth of forty feet it is still at least that width, with several small leaders which appear as though they would join the main body a few feet lower down; the specimens from this reef are some of them equal to those found in the Driving Creek, and the gold appears to be much richer in quality, and as good specimens have been taken from the bottom of the shaft as those obtained from the surface.
