AUCKLAND VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE.
On Thursday evening last, the general animal meeting ol the members of litis force was held in tbc Bri-gade-room. Some thirty members were in attendance. Captain Daldy was moved into the chair, and the following communications were read by the,chairman : “ Armed Police Office, 10th October, 18C2.
“ Sjr,—l have the honour to acquaint you that Mr. J. Cad man has resigned into the hands of the Government his office as Captain in charge of No. 1 Fire Engine ; and that I have recommended that the engine should bo banded over to the Auckland Lire Brigade. In this proposition the Government has expressed concurrence. 1 therefore beg to state that lam now prepared to place the engine in question at the disposal of the force under your command, upon being informed at what time it will be convenient for you to receive it. “ I have, &c., “ James Naughton, “ Commissioner of Police. “ W. C. Daldy, Esq., Superintendent “ Auckland Fire Brigade.”
“Auckland, October 13tit, 18G2. “ In answer to your communication of 10th inst., proffering to the Auckland hire Brigade the charge of No. I Engine, 1 have the pleasure to acquaint you that the committee of the brigade are willing to accept the same, with an understanding that the Government will contribute towards the expenses of the engine as heretofore. “ The four Insurance Offices share equally in the expenses of the other engines, ns you me doubtless aware.
“lam, sir, your most obedient servant, “ 11. M. Jervis. “ Hon. See. A. Fire Brigade. “ James Naughton, Esq., Commissioner ol I’oltee, &c. &c. &e.” Alter some remarks from various persons present, deprecating the apathy of the general public and ol i.h» insurance companies in this important matter, the accounts were audited, given in, and stand as follows Hrccipo for Pio.) ; cxpemliftii'o.
balance of deficiency, £3 9s. 6d. There are also other claims against the force, making a total of present liabilities of £l7 ss. Bd. The following resolution was proposed by Mr. Rattray, and seconded by Mr. Jervis, and carried That the committee be instructed to acquaint the Government and the agents of the insurance companies of the present position of the Brigade, and request to be informed what assistance they arc prepared to give it.” The records of the Brigade shew that from Nov., 1801, to October last, twelve general practices of the engines have taken place, and four private practices. Also, that the engines had been manned and drawn out upon nine small fires, and one large fire at the junction of Grey and Quccn-strcets ; and that the engines are in working order, but that the hose is nearly worn out.
