MONGONUI.
(from a correspondent.) We arc surprised that you have not taken any notice of the report of the meeting of the Runanga held here in July and August last, beyond the notice of the meeting from a correspondent. It is fully reported in No. 14 of "the Maori Messenger, September 20th. I observe it has been publicly stated that the natives were previously schooled in the part they were to take, which is untrue. Not one of them was influenced, or directly or indirectly informed what he should do or say. We expect that you have had so much other matter, and so many things to take your attention, that this has been overlooked. It is generally regretted here that Mr. Williamson should have resigned. All parties know that a more capable or conscientious man cannot be found. In fact, there is no doubt it will bo difficult to fill his place. A meeting is talked of here to bring prominently before the public the capabilities of this port for the port of call for the steamers by the Panama route. There is no doubt that it is more in the direct line between Panama and Sydney or Melbourne than ar other port in New Zealand, and can be entered left, without the slightest danger, at all times. ——— The Kiwi has been wind-bound, waiting cattle, since Thursday last.
