The good ship Avalanche, Captain Stott, dropped down harbour on Wednesday evening. After rounding the North Head, she came to, weighing again on Thursday at daylight, and taking her final departure for London. H.M.S.S. Harrier, )7guns, Commander Sir Malcolm McGregor, Bart., got up steam on Wednesday morning, proceeding to sea at noon, with his Excellency the Governor on board, en route for the South. On rounding the North Head, the Harrier was put under all plain sail, and with the brisk Southerly breeze then blowing, went down th" gulf at a spanking rate. A steamer was signalled yesterday afternoon, and expectation was on the tiptoe; she, however, soon passed out of sight, and was no doubt the Harrier on her way south from Kawau. Signal for a brig outside Tiri Tiri was made on Wednesday, shortly before sunset. The vessel, which proved to be the Rita, Captain R. Firth, from Otago, passed up the harbour at an early hour on Thursday morning. The three masted schooner Vistula, Capt. Souter, sailed with a full cargo of timber for Otago, on Thursday forenoon. The schooner Caroline (gun-boat), Mr. Hannibal Marks commander, arrived in port from Napier on Thursday afternoon. Sa<led on the sth at 6 p.m., and encountered the full force of the gale, which blew from N.E. to E.N.E., increasing to a hurricane, with a furious sea running. After standing on for some time, Mr. Marks accounted it prudent to bear up and return to port, which he accomplished by Tuesday at 9 a.m. Took a fresh departure on Saturday last at 6 o'clock. On Monday, when rounding the East Cape, experienced a hard gale at S.S.E. during this gale sighted the schooner Fancy running, but at night fall lost sight of her off Cape Runaway.
