New-Zealander Office, Tuesday, 11th February, 186:’. The long looked for Avalanche, arrived from London on Friday afternoon. She brings a heavy cargo of merchandise, and eighty five passengers. The barque Breadalbane sailed for Sydney, on Friday. From the coast, the following are the supplies received last aieek:—76s bushels wheat. 12 bushels {oats, 17 bushels apples. 25 bushels mixed fruits, 742 bushels peaches 20 cwt. potatoes, 28 cwt. onions, 10 cwt. bacon, 18 cwt. pork, 100 lbs. lard, 336 lbs. cheese, 11,200 lbs. wool, 130 dozen eggs, 10 fowls, 6 horses, 38 sheep, 23 tons kauri gum, 65 tons firewood, 7i tuns black oil, 1005 bushels shells, 3500 shingles, 12,000 feet timber. The Customs Revenue received during the week ended Ist. amounted to £1842 "is. lOd. Messrs, Cheeseman, Hunter & Co. held a trade sale of draperies, &c., in their stores. Queen-street, on the 31st ultimo, at which the following prices were realised Fancy coatings of various descriptions at from Bs. to 135.; angolas, at from 2s. Id. to 10s.; black and colored twills, 7d. to 7Jd.; ditto alpacas. Is. 3J, to Is. 6d. per yard; black and colored twist fetched from 265. to 295., and raven sewings at 30s. per lb.; braids, at 12<. to 145., and flexibles at from 2s. 7d. to 15s. 6d. per gross. Messrs. Cheeseman, Hunter & Co.’s horse sale held on the Ist February, at the Greyhound, was well supplied, and most horses exchanged hands at satisfactory prices. Draught colts at from £39 to £55 each; riding horses at from £i(t to £l9 each; yearling colts at from £8 10s. to £lO 15s. A dog cart and harness realized £34 10s. Messrs. Cheeseman, Hunter & Co. report that their Newmarket sale of live stock, held on Tuesday the 4th instant, was numerously attended, and everything sold well. The late rains having reinvigorated the pastures, graziers are disposed to hold for a time, thereby giving an upward tendency to the store cattle trade. Dairy cows and beef still maintain good figures, in which it is not likely that there will be any reduction. Yearling heifers and steers readily changed hands at lair averages. There was a full market of sheep, and all went to the hammer at prices in advance of the past week. The rams offered went off well. Indeed, there was a greater activity ditplayed than for some time past, Messrs. Cheeseman, Hunter & Co.’s Papakura sale, held on Wednesday, the sth instant, was of the same character as that of the previous day, except in numbers. The cattle were mostly store, but they sold readily. Full grown steers fetched £7 2s. Gd.; cows, £6 155.; working bullocks, £9 10s.; and yearling heifers and steers, £4 15'. each. A cob horse sold for £l4 2s. 6d., another £24, and a yearling filly at £5. Town Property would appear to be in greater demand at the present moment than at any former period. Yesterday Mr. S. Jones offered a variety of allotments in Victoria and Drake Streets to public competition. His Mart was crowded, and buyers were keen at excellent figures. Twenty two lots were quitted, those with frontages to Victoria Street, with a depth of 70 feet, at £4 10s., £4 15s, £5 75.6 d., and £o 10s. per foot frontage. Allotments in Duke Street varied from £l 7>. Gd. to £-2 7 1. 6d.; a large corner lot realising £5 per foot. In Centre Street, the lots ranged from £l 13s. Gd. to £3 ss. per foot. The terms were liberal, a credit of twenty five years, at an interest of ten per cent, per annum, being allowed. The sale grossed £2154.
