THURSDAY, DECEMBER 26, 1861. UTTERING A FORGED CHEQUE. Thomas Harvey, charged with uttering a forged cheque, knowing it to he forged, pleaded not guilty, and was remanded till Saturday. Patrick McMahon was found guilty of assaulting Will am Doran and threatening to take his life, and was ordered to find two sureties for his good behaviour for three months. DRUNKENNESS. Michael Scanliu and Robert Fielder were fined ss. and costs ; William Sliiels 20s. and costs ; and Mary Walton committed for nine days. STARRING. Daniel Burke, 70th Regt., charged with stabbing John Heslen, a private of the 14th, on Monday, 23rd instant, was remanded till Friday, Heslen not being able to appear. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 27th. ASSAULTS. Thomas Adams, a West Indian black, was charged with assaulting Henry Ellis, merchant, Auckland. Complainant stated that on Saturday night, 21st instant, defendant knocked at his door. He opened it himself with a light in his hand, and defendant immediately jumped on the step, extinguished the light and gave complainant a push. On being pushed out, he attempted to strike complainant with a heavy stick. Defendant had been to his house before and since, keeping up a constant system of intimidation. Ordered to find two sureties in .£25 each for his good behaviour for 6 months and to enter into his own bond for £SO. James Lynch, charged with a violent assault on his wife, by which her jawbone was fractured and internal injuries sustained, was remanded till Monday next. Daniel Burke was further remanded till Monday, Heslin being still in a critical position, owing to a wound in the abdominal region and unable to attend in Court. Mary Carmichael was fined ss. and costs for being drunk.
