She has been thirty five days out four of which were spent in her downward passage, ten at Napier, id twenty one on her return. On Wednesday the 12th uIL , rounded the Fast Cape at 2 p.m.. and observed a cutter, which proved to be the Comet, with her mast carried away about Z feet below the cross-trees. Bore down towards her and .Aed if she required assistance ; being answered m the atfirmative, Captain Clatke passed a line on board and lowed her "i Hicks' Bay. a heavy sea from the North-west running, and blowing a hard gale from the Southward. Alter anchoring her in Hicks' Bay. Captain Clarke look his crew on board the Comet, and jury rigged the disabled mast by which she was enabled to carry double-reefed-mainsatl. reefed foresail, and Tend jib. On the following Tuesday, she resumed her voyage Th the wind at Fast. She has a cargo of wheat on board. The courageous and kindly conduct of Captain Clarke in this , Jse well merits our warmest praise and something more subitantial loo; as the total loss of the cutter and cargo would hue ensued to k a certainty buffer his judicious and timely interference.
