MONTHLY COMMERCIAL RECORD.

f Nothing of interest to report. There is a complaint that t dulness prevails, but we hear of no positive depression. Sales f are, no doubt, not so active as they have been ; but at our • usual mode of "clearing,” by the hammer, there are few, if any, f alarming sacrifices lo chronicle: merchandise, suited to our > market, holds its own; real estate, though plentifully brought . forward, has its reserve, and that, almost invariably, at a figure i by no means prejudicial to the interests of the vendors. 1 The Stock Markets are active; and for fat meet of all sorts prices favourable to the graziers are realised. Unhappily, in consequence of the war, our Native producers have fallen far short in their supplies of wheat, maize, and other agricu'tural produce, so that we have, for the time, become importers instead of exporters as we formerly were: but, with the thriving Northern settlements rapidly pushing into energetic existence, a short period will suffice to rectify these mischances. As a whole, we regard the condition of the Province of Auckland as not only prosperous but exceedingly promising ; and if her increasing Customs Revenue may be considered a criterion, there must be a very considerable ammout of business being quietly transacted.

' A RETURN, IN DETAIL, OF IMPORTS, At the Port of Auckland, from the Ist to the 30th day of April, 1861, both days inclusive.
