AUCKLAND RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

To the Editor of the New-Zealandkh. Sir,—ln this days issue of the Southern Cioss I observe a letter from a “ Country Member” of the Association complaining of the arrangements made by the Committee with regard to the days fixed for firing. I have already answered a similar complaint Irom another country member, and if you will kindly insert the enclosed copy of my letter, it may remove the doubts of those who do not appear to understand the advertised arrangements. I am, yours faithfully, H. Gileillan, lion. Secretary. Auckland, 3rd May, IBGI, X*.S. —The total number of competitors is 113. [enclosure.] Auckland, 30th April, 18G1. Mv Dear Gin, —In reply to your note of yesterday’s date I hope to remove the misunderstanding under which you labour with regard to the competition for prices as advertised. The Bth, 9th, 10th, and 11th May are set apart for all who shoot with the Enfield Kifle. if that is the weapon yon use, you can attend on either of the four days, choosing the most convenient lor yourself. You

must be at Mount Eden before 10 o’clock a.m., where with the others present you will shoot; have your number of points recorded, and there an end. Again, if you are in the Cavalry, you come with your carbine on the 15th or 16th. at the same hour and place. . You do not need to attend again unless you are among the number of “ ties,” when of course we must have decided who shall have the prizes ; and if you do not win a prize you cannot compete for Dr. Campbell s Cup- . . , The Committee gave much consideration to the subject, and I think you will sec that the arrangements arc as much for the convenience of country, as of town members. Had a special day been set apart for all country members it might have been stormy, it would have been convenient for some and not so for others : whereas by giving you a choice of days every man may come when it best suits him. Oblige me by making this communication as public as possible in your neighbourhood, and believe me to remain Yours faithfully, H, GII.FII.LAX, lion. See., Auckland Riilo Association.
