A FAREWELL.
The Rev. Isaac Harding, who has long enjoyed in his capacity of minister of the Wesleyan Church, the esteem, not alone of the members of his own religious persuasion, but of all who have had the advantage of his acquaintance, is about leaving the scene of his present pastoral labors at St. Kilda, for the purpose of attaching himself to the Wesleyan ministry at Auckland, New Zealand. I regret sincerely to find that Mr. Harding's change of residence has been determined on in consequence of his having recently sustained a severe domestic affliction. The Rev. gentleman, in addition to the performance of the more immediate duties of his ministry, has for some time past edited The Wesleyan Chronicle, a magazine well known to the adherents of the Church of whose views it is the organ ; and I cannot take leave of this subject without volunteering my testimony to the temperate though zealous manner in which Mr. Harding has acquitted himself of the very difficult task of conducting a strictly religious publication without having, as far as I have been able to perceive, in any instance given cause of offence to members of other religious denominations.—Melbourne Note Book, Feb. 27. The J Mart Town Advertiser, of 19th March, savs:—The departure of Sir Henry Young, on leave of absence for twelve months, has, we hear, been postponed, if not altogether relinquished, by his Excellency, in consequence of Major-General Macarthur having, for some reason or other not yet explained, revoked his acceptance of the Government of the colony during Sir Henry's absence. Governor Siiortlasd.—There has been a report current for the last week or two that Mr. Willoughby Shortland, formerly Colonial Secretary of New Zealand, and now or recently Governor of the Island of Tobago, has been offered the Governorship of Moreton Bay. .1 have traced the report to the authority of a private letter, and the manner in which it is stated to have been obtaineTTis plausible enough, but nobody is disposed to place much reliance on these rumours There have been by far too many of themi for that. From all I can remember of Mr.gland's colonial career lan disposed to think would make as good a Governor as any one else. On this head, however, I do not imagine we would be at all particular prqyidcd only tbp appqrj meat were early made«
