Commercial Record.
Nkw-Zealasoeii Office, Auckland, December 2!>, 1854. The Markets tire without change ; and trade continues languid. We have ...id three foreign arrivals since our last. And the arrivals of produce coastwise during the week have been 350 bushels wheat, ISO bushels maize, lOcwt. ban,, and bacon, 4 tons pork, 200 lbs. lard, 25 tons firewood, 2 tons onions, t tun potatoes, 10 ewt flux, 17,000 feet timber, and D'J sheep. Mr. Newman held his usual fortnightly sale of stock at Newmarket, on Tuesday. The morning was a moist one, and the supply limited, possibly because of the inactivity that obtains durh:,g the Christmas Holidays. At all events the sale was comparatively dull and the prices realised rather lower. Forty wethers fetched 80s. a head. Five calves averaged £2 KSs, Two yearling heifers sold for $5 each. A cow brought £ll 10s. Four two year old heifers, fat, averaged 12,'. is. (id. each. Five Oxen averaged (,'l2 I~s. each. The proceeds of the day's sale amounted to £2O'J 17s. M.
Mr. Newman, likewise, had a sale at Otahuhu, on the following day. A very nice herd of quiet ca'.lle, — the heifers mostly in calf—was upon that occasion brought to the hammer. The season of the year, however, is clearly inopportune. The farmers were busy. The dry season has set in, and the grass begins to feel the influence of summer. Lower prices have, therefore, to be submitted to, to the extent, on Wednesday, of say ten shilling a head : Twenty three two year old heifers averaged £8 9s. 1 Id And other twenty three heifers of a like age were sold in a lot at £8 17s. 6d. a head. Twelve two year old steers averaged £8 Bs. 9d. each. Three cows £9 10s. each. A cow, with a calf at its foot, £l3 15s. And a two year old bull £7 ss. The total amount of the day's sale was £549 17s - 6d. AUCKLAND MARKET PRICES. F/uiday Evening, DiiCiiVBEE 29th, 1354.
