On the 31st December Messrs. H. aisd C. Toulmin received notice fiom Her M»je ty's Gjvernnaent that their contract for conveying the mails t> Sydney by insnihly tailing packi ts was to close on the Slst March, and consequently the March packet would be the last which would leave England on the old system. Messr*. Gilcbi Ist and Alexander, the Sidney agents, have received instructions not to send any more mails by packets from Sydney, and the Tropic, with the June mail, will be the last which will be despatched from the colony. After that lime we suppose the old practice will be resorted to, and all Utters will be sent by the first ship that leavei the port after they are posted, unless marked to go by particular vesiels. Even if ■team communication be not established during the current year, the abolition of the old system of keeping all ietten for the monthly packets will be an advantage. — Sydney Herald, May 26.
