A difference had occurred between [the Austrian Cabinet and the Diet, which was likely to end seriously. A courier from Hungary had arrived, with the intelligence that Scheumitz was in the hands of the Imperialist!. Several skirmishei had taken place on the frontiers between the Austrian and Sardinian troops. The inhabitants of Savoy were averse to the war, and would, it was thought, throw themselves either into the arms of the Swiss or the French.
