The Marys will sail in the course of the day, or to morrow, for Tahiti. # t The Coquette will follow her for the same destination iv a day or two. The Ganges proceeds in a few days to Hokianga, where she will load a cargo of spars for the sister colony. The Sea Nymph will sail next week for Manilla. The American whalers, Alpha> with 500 barrels oil, out 14 months, and the Persian, Manchester, with 600 barrels oil, out 1 6 months ; are in the Bay of Islands refitting and refreshing.
The schooner ' Harlequin,' arrived at Sydney 23rd September, reported having spoken and boarded the ' Saghalien,' Jones, from London, bound to New Zealand, off Cape Otway, on the 14th ult. The 'Porlenia,' arrived at Sydney on the 23rd Sept. from Lefoo, and brought seventy natives, consisting of aixty-four men, four women, and two boys, collected from the New Hebrides and adjacent islands. During the passage, the ' Portenia' sprung her mainmast, but when repaired would proceed with the natives either to Geelong or Twofold Bay, land them, and sail for the islands for another batch. The 4 Velocity' had left Roturaah for Sandwich Island to ascertain the particulars relative to the wreck of the • British Sovereign,' after which she would return and take on board natives for Sydney. The ' Portenia' touched at the following places, her object being to ascertain what quantity of labour might be obtained from them : Tanna, Eronan, Anatam, Leefoo, Were, Isle of Pines, Rotumah, De Peystris, Hope Island, Peyrout, Rotche's Island, Ely, and Achilles Island. The ochooner ' Alligator' called at Anatam three days subsequent to the French corvette « Brilliante,' leaving there, with 150 tons sandal wood on board, bound to China. The 'Portentia' reports the following vessels :— May, • United States,' of Nantucket, 1 7 months out, with 150 barrels sperm, and 50 barrels black oil— May 30, * Potamac,' Swain, 22 months owt, with 11 50 barrels sperm oil— June 4, ' Woodlark,' Smith, of Sydney, on the equator, with 70 barrels sperm, hence 18th April— June 17th, American whaleship, ' Nile,' 33 months out, with 800 brls. sperm, and 300 barrells black—July 14, ' James Stewart,' of London, 3 months from Sydney, with 200 brlssperm oil— July 18, ' Edward,' of Sydney, 6 weeks out, with 70 barrels sperm, reported having previously lost a large whale— July 25, * Genii,' of Sydney, off Byron's Island, with 350 barrels sperm oil, hence the 24th March.— Sydney Chronicle.
