The appeal to the judicial committee of the Privy Council; in the celebrated Bank case, has terminated in favor of the Bank of Australasia. borne rain had fallen in the county of Cumberland, but not general nor continued enough to improve the grain crops in that part of the territory. A committee has been formed at Sydney, for the purpose of raisng funds to reimburse Mrs. Chis- < holm, for her active and benevolent exertions in the cause of female emigration. A large sum is likely to be subscribed. A valuable root for dyeing has been discovered growing wild near Sydney, m Inch gives a beautiful brown, and is likely to be much used in the tweed manufacture. The total value of articles entered at the Customs, New South Wales, as imports, was, in 1844, £931,260; in 1845, £1,233,85* ; in 1846, £1,630,522} and of exports, in 1844, £1,128,115; in 1545, £1,555,986; in 1846, £1,481,539. Of ai tides, the p-oduce or manufacture of foieign stales imported, the value was about a seventh of the whole in each of those years ; of ankles the produce or manufacture of the United Kingdom and other British dominions, about sixsevenths of the exports in 1844— the value of articles the produce or manufactures of New South Wal<>s, wa5jg864,707 j in 1845, £1,259,062; in 1846, £1,201433. The difference was made up in each of these years, of articles the produce or manufacture of the United Kingdom, of other British dominions, and foreign states, Of the last-mentioned, the average value in each year was £77,000. The total number and amount of mortgages of land registered at Sydney was in 1844} 494, £299,813; in 1845,318, £272,822, in 1846, SOB, £170,374. In 1841, the number wm 709, and amount £1,090,000. The ainoqnt of preferable Hem on wool last year, was at Sydney £71,351. At Port Phillip, £11,157. And amount lent on live stock at Sydney £150,733. At Fort Phillip, £110,71. The New South Wales Council have voted 1001, as a premium for the best essay on catarrh in sheep. Dr. Liecbardt has again started from the Condatnine for Fitzroy Downs, in order to connect bis discoveries with those of Sir T. Mitchell, in the western interior of New Holland. Sir Charles Filzroy has caused the river lately traced by Mr. Surveyor Burnett, and before supposed to be but now found not identical with the Boyne of Mr. Oxley, to be called the "River Burnett," in its whole course from Darling Downs to its junction with the sea, at Harvey's Bay i and the river disembogueing into Wide Bay, the " Mary." The former river is reported to be, navigable only for small vessels, and that but a short way up. The Mary, on the contrary, affords a good harbour for vessels of considerable burthen, and is navigable some dis tance inland. The country is said to be favourable, for grazingf and the land in some parts
arable. There were no aborigines seen along the rivers-— but many on the sea coast who were all peaceable. " Bungelene," the native chief, has entered into a wrjften contract with Mr. Commissioner Tyen, on the part of the New South Wales Government, to obtain from his bi others among the mountains at Gipp's Laud, the white woman said to be living there, leaving his two wives and two children as hostages, conditioned that he is to receive upon fulfilment of his agreement, a boat with oar*, a tent, 4 blankets, a guernsey frock, fish hooks and lines, and a tomahawk, for himself, and some blankets, tomahawks, &c, for three or four of his party.
