POLICE COURT.

On Monday last* William Jamieson, and Edward Sullivan were placed at ~the' - bar, charged with burglary on the premises of Mr. Robert Mitchell, Ironmonger, of Shortland street;, who deposed that on Saturday night last, he fastened the doors of his shop and those leading to the hack premises, between, ten and eleven -o’clock. Between eleven and twelve, Dr. Logan Campbell arrived home from the interior, (he being an inmate*) »aud fastened the side door leading to O’Connell street. On- rising on 'Sunday morning, about seven o’clock, Mr. Mitchell -found the front door of his- shop, unfastened and on . examination of the premises: he discovered, that from the shelves :in the : store, various descriptions of property had' been abstracted, t and frorahisdesk about three: or four -pounds 4of silverhad been taken. * Sortie privates of the 58th Regiment gave evidence that on Sunday; in walking down towards Queen-street from the barracks, they perceived in the drain;, now forming across Queen-street, a bundled enclosed in an ordnance rug, which they took out and carried to the barracks*; One-of .the sentries at the jail deposed that, about nine o’clock on Sundaysmorning, he perceived - Sullivan -examining . the drain most intently, ' * Chief constable Smith having searched the dwellings of both prisoners; which, with, the bundle discovered by the soldiers were, sworn to by Mr. Mitchell as his property. The prisoners on Thursday, after being remanded on two previous examinations, werej fully committed for trial. !
