To the Ed! tor of the New-Zealander. Dear Sir. — Having learned that your Journal of the 19th Julj last gave intimation of a want of Baskets at Auckland, and of His Excellency the Governor's intention to offer a prize of Ten Pounds for the best specimen of Baskets that could be produced b> the Ist of January, 1846; and being a practical basket-maker 1 have endeavoured to pioduce a small specimen of baskets made from the Supple Jack, \i hich takes more time and trouble than the English osiei, which is the reason wh) lhe\ aiemore expensive than bas-
kcts ir.ade from osiers ; but I bope that osiers "will soon be impoited into New Zenland, as they would glow w ell in 1 lie swamps. 1 he baskets. I have sent by Captain Richards, of the Government Bug Viclona; and not knowing any one in Auckland, I was advised to send them to the care of the Rev. T. Buddie, mliom at liberty to dispose of them in any way he thinks best, and I shall feel thankful if they gain the prize or patronage at Auckland.
