SOUTH AUSTRALIA,

The Adelaide papeis of the 3rd of May, contain full and Jdctached accounts of the Bay of Islands on the 1 lth of March. New discoveries of copper have been made at two miles beyond the Light, and the probable extent of tlie minerals theie will shortly superinduce the occupation of the valuable corn lands and pastutages comprised in the two special surveys intersected by the abovementioned. A copper lode recently discovered on the estate of Alfred H'allet, Esq., beyond CHalloran Hill, has leen sufficiently examined, and is pronounced a most valuable property.p roperty. IMov are these all the current discoveries. Messrs. Philcox and Campbell have purchased a section near WilInnga, on which a copper lode has been laid bare to the extent ofahout eight fathoms; the quality of the ore being such [as can be pronounced upon •• at sight." We are almost tired of hearing about manganese; if all the reports are true, (and M T e see no reason to doubt them,) the deposits of this useful mineral are obviously great, if not inexhaustable. The Gum collecting this season is become an important one for our rural population. One infotmant assures us that the quantity brought into town during a single week was nothing short of fifty tons, and the Editor of the Sonth Australian computes that not less than 200 tons of gum have been collected this year j which at £40 per ton, (the last season's fetched j£6o in bond in London,) is worth £8,000, Besides the immediate advantage of such extended research, many important discoveries have been made of minerals, native fruits, and other available substance.
