LAND TORPEDO.
CHRISTCHURCII INVENTION. ■A private exhibition of a newly invented land torpedo was given in the City Council Chambers, .Cliristchurch, a day or two ago.' The invention is by a returned soldier. Thoso present apparently were well pleased with what they saw, and in order to help the inventor £75 was promised in the room. A committee was set up to further the object, Reports were read from three prominent engineers, and detailed drawings were also shown and a small work-' ing model was on view;. It was decided to endeavour to collect a total of £350 iu order to make a full-sized machine, The committee now requires £.7.1 to cany out experiments. Mr Holland, the Mayor of Christchurch, states that unless the sunr required is collected this week it is more than probable the invention will be sent' to America to be manufactured, He hopes that sufficient .moiiey will bo sent to him to complete the machine without having .to resort to a street collection. For obvious reasons details cannot lie published,'
