ANNUAL MEETING. 3 :.• '• The annual meeting of the Kakanui Patriotic Society look place in the local Oddfellows' Hall on Ifriday evening, there being present a larger aud ( more interested audience than lias been customary. Mr J. Maffoy, as chairman of the society, having opened the meeting, called upon the secretary, Mr | W. CrOn, lo read tho annual report and ' balance-sheet. ' Tho annual report showed that the ! society had again done a good year's I work'. It had obtained for the Red ! Cross organisation contributions aniount- » ing to £6 17s Oil for the Y.M.C.A, £35 1 17s, and .for Iho Salvation Army £l7 ! 15s, a total of £OO Us !)d, in addition to 1 contributions amounting to £27 lis Bd, I which had been spent in advertising, > in local charges, in gifts to soldiers, • both returned and at the front, and sundry expenses of a minor eliiimetvr. The balnncc-slieet showed a credit ' balauce of £4 8s (id, which sum, as, the secretary showed, was virtually all earmarked for special expenditures. A long discussion then ensued, the outcome of which were the following resolutions;— That the annual report and balnuce- ! sheet be received as read. That this meeting request the Patriotic Society lo hold, as soon after a soldier's return from the front as possible, a welcomc-honie social in his honour, and recognise his services in a tangible manner. , That each soldier receive a Wesney gold medal in recognition of his service!!. That a public meeting be called by the chairman for"the 23rd inst., for the ■ .purpose of receiving the resignations of the Kakanui Patriotic Society, ami of the Kakanui Farewelling Society, and of appointing a new patriotic society to carry on the functions of the two retiring committees, the expenses'of cal-i ling this meeting to be borne equally by the prcseut funds of both. Tho customary votes of thn;iks were then accorded, and the meeting closed with tho National Anthem. 1
