CAMP REJECTIONS.
815 MEN IN FOURTEEN DRAFTS. HELLINGTON, September 7. The Defence Minister to-day read a return showing how many men in the later reinforcements had b.-oken down in camp and been discharged as unfit for active service. The total number discharged from the Twenty-second to Thirty-fifth Reinforcemeuts inclusive was 815, as follows :
,The Minister explained that the reason for the large • numbers rejected from the twonty-sixth to thirtieth drafts was that the standard of medical fitness was temporarily reduced 'in agreement with the lower standard adopted in Britain. It was found, however, to be unsatisfactory, so a return was made to the higher New Zealand standard. As a consequence the defective men in later reinforcements had fallen to one or two.
