The Koromiko was expected to lcavo Lyttelton early last evening for Oamarti, and is due. this morning to load for Auckland, Napier, and Gisbornc.
The I'utiki was to leave Dunedin last night l'or Oaniaru, and on arrival will load 180 tons cargo for Wellington and Wanganui. She will sail this afternoon for Wellington. ■ As the Koutunui, acting as tender reeently at Oisborne for the conveyance of passengers to a largo steamer, was | swinging into the stream an exception- I ally strong; ebb tide took charge, and the vessel got out of control, drifted rapidly broadside on down stream, and ■filially;crashed-into the western pier near the beacon. Meanwhile the Hippie ■vliich left the Iron Pot at almost the jiimc time, rapidly approached the tender, and a collision was narrowly averted. Those aboard the' tender were greatly alarmed) and for a brief period ! there was .something in the nature of a panic. Eventually, however the ten- j dcr succeeded in righting herself, and the passengers were safely placed aboard the big steamer. Some damage was done to the pier. \ An English exchange states that it is not improbable;that the Vatorlaud,« now being repaired in Nciv York,' may run under the British flag shortly.
