, LAST NIGHT'S SPEECHES. Per Press Association, WELLINGTON, July 12. When the House,resumed last night, Sir John Pindlay (whose speech appears in another column of this morning's issue) continued the debate on the Address-in-Reply". Mr T. A. H. Field (Nelson) followed. The burden of his speech was the discontent prevailing regarding the promotions of our men at the front and
in France, and he asked why ihe Government did not get rid of General Godley, whom he blamed for the discontent. Mr Newman (Rangitikei) criticised many points of Sir John. Find)ay : jsj speech. He hoped ihere would be a return to party rivalry after the war, and he strenuously opposed the imposition of an export tax, a graduated income tax being in his opinion the fairest method of. taxation. After the supper'adjournment, Mr Newman, continuing, advocated keeping up the reinforcements and redeeming ftew Zealand's obligations to the Mother Land. The debate was adjourned on the motion of Mr R. McC'allum, and the House rose at 10.15 p.m. -'
