KAKANUI PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.
THE Y.M.C.A. APPEAL,
A meeting of the Kakamii Patriotic Society was hold on Monday, the 23rd inst, in the Kakamii Oddfellows' Hall, there being present: Messrs Maffey (chairman), Southgate, Elder, Cleverley, and Gion (secretary). The report of the canvass of the district for Y.M.C.A. funds was handed in, and the result showed that the sum of £l9 7s in sums varying from £1 Is to 2s had been collected, which, together with the sum of £l6 10s donated by the local athletic club, brings the district's contribution to a total of £35 17sj, exelusive of donations handed in directly ,to Oamaru,
Towards the end of last year tho district was canvassed for funds for buying n present for each of our boys at the front. The secretary reported that lie had received letters from eight of these, seven of whom acknowledged Toceipt of parcels containing presents. The letters showed such a keen appreciation of the gifts sent, that it was unanimously Agreed to institute a canvass for the same purpose at a very early date. Out of "the proceeds of the lecture givemiy. Mr E. P.. Lee last December, the committee were able to vote tho. sum of £2 10s to Red Cross funds.
