INDICATIONS OF INCREASED - I AREA SOWN. I ■ V Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCII, April 22.-' The Hon, W. D. S. MacDonalil stated last night that lie had no definite information yet as to the total acreage that was to be sown in wheat, but judging from the applications received for seed wheat, the indications' were very promising that the acreage required—about 250,000 acres—would be sown, lie hoped to have a census taken at the end of Juno to ascertain the extent of the autumn sowing and in the event of the acreage not being sufficient, to make a strong appeal for spring sowing, In some districts farmers had promised to increase their sowings of wheat by twenty per cent. He thought farmers realised tho position and intended to assist the Government by putting in as much wheat as possible.
