A WIFE'S APPEAL. WELLINGTON, ApiilJjV. A decision that presented somo unusual features was given by the Second Military Service Board yesterday, A married.soldier, who has trained with the' Twenty-fifth [Reinforcements, was granted indefinite leave without pay on the application ■of his wife, who stated that she was unable to keep herself and her two children on her husband's military pay ami the separation allowance received by her from the Government. Cremin stated that he had eniistcd ' voluntarily , v He had not been able to make any financial provision for his wife and children beyond the pay and allowance fixed by the .Government, He had been under the impression that the amount allowed would be sufficient.' The appeal had been made by his wife\ Mrs Cremin stafed that she could'not ncvilily manage nn the separation allowwe and the money her husband was ible \d give- her from his military pay, He had enlisted, without'consulting Jier,

• ■ "You. should have consulted your wife,before enlisting," said the chairman nf the board.(Mr J, W. Poynton) to.Cremin, . "It is very patriotic of a Second Division man to enliftj but you have lc-ft your wife in a difficult position."

Captain Cowlishaw (military representative): "The Defence Department has been put to a lot of expense for the training and maintenance of this soldier. • . The chairman said that Cremin would be given indefinite leave without pay. The/man had been in the employ of the .Railway Department, which doubtless would take him back into the service.

TURKS SEE SOMME FILM. Captain Bromhead returned to Petrograd at the New Year from an extensive tour in the Caucasian theatre of war, where he displaced the Somine battle films at Tiflis, Erzeroum, Erzingan and Trebizond. The pictures were also shown to the Czar at headquarters. Captain Bromhead went to England in order to orgnise next season's tour.
