FAREWELL AT KAKANUI.
The Kakaimi Departing Soldiers' Committee gave a social ami presentation in the Atlienanim Hall last night in honour of Private W. Innis. The arrangements were placed entirely in [lie. hands.of tlie ladies ol' tlie district. i iirs 11. .Uddington, who had boon chosen to act as chairwoman, briefly but in felicitous terms, explained the purpose of the meeting and then called upon Mr and Miss Knight to open the concert with a pianoforte and violin duet Subsequently a programme consisting of songs by' .Miss Mowbray, Mrs Elroate, Mr J). ll.'Thomson, Mr \i Watson and Mr T, fSoutliffate, a duet by Mr and Mrs Eleoate, recitations by Miss Frith and Mr 11, Gallagher, ami pianoforte solos by Miss Piper and Miss Gallagher, was given to an appreciative audince, The accompanimnts were played by Misses I'iper and Knight, and Mr Kleoale. During the evening Private Innis was made the recipient of a wristlet watch. Miss Wilson, i» ;i most appropriate speech, making Hie presentation, Private Innis .suitably"replied. His Worship the Mayor of Oaniaru (Mr_ \\ 11. J'Vith) irjivp an excellent patriotic address in which he dwelt on the danger incurred by men who Jailed lo return registration cards under the Military Service regulations. Miss l„ ijouthgate proposed a vote, nl' thanks to the performers and speakers, which was carried enthusiastically, ami the uieeliiig closed with tlie singing of Hie National Anthem, after which dancing was-iiidulgediii,
