OBITUARY.
COLONEL LOVEDAY. (Per Press AssocUUon.) WELLINGTON, August 19. Colonel L. W. Loveday, for nriny , years prominent in Dominion military circles, died this morning, aged seventyone years. i . [The late Colonel Loveday was born at Darjeeling, India, iu 1845, and was educated in England. He arrived in New Zealand by the ship Chili, when eighteen years of age. Before coining to the Dominion he bad seen r some service as a volunteer in England, aud shortly after his arrival he was appointed instructor to the Third Waikato Militia. In 1567 he.became clerk of-the Warden's Court at the Thames aud then became a clerk in the offico of the Civil Commissioner. In 1870 Mr Loveday went to Wellington as a sessional clerk. Later he was appointed chief clerk and accountant of the Lunacy Department,, a position which he held for a considerkble period. He was originally connected with the formation of the Wellington Guards in the mid-seventies. He .was lal'or promoted to the rank of major of the Wellington Rifle Battalion.] i
