THE SUBMARINE MENACE
' 'INTERNATIONAL MURDER.'' ANTF-AIILITAIIV NEWS. j __ SOCIALISTS DENOUNCE (IKRMAKY'S IJNDKK-SliA WAR, 7 ~ (Auslrulian and X./i. Cable Association.) WASHINGTON, August 21). > The Social Democrats of Germany have secretly circulated thousands of copies of an anti-siihinariue, anti-Guv-erniiieiil circular, wherein they denounce the U boat war as international murder. The circular says: "Crazy German Imperialistic agitators have stupidly provoked a world war and then added to their crime by futile submarining. In the spring of .1015 our braggarts were cracking jokes and threatening to starve England by submarine warfare. This was, utter foolishness, for a blockade'would' require omv hundred submarines for every dozen the Germans were able to- build, and even then the effect would be doubtful. The campaign ciilmiiiiiled in sending hundreds of women and children to a grizly death in the'Lusitania and causing.a world-wide cry of horror." The circular adds: "The Government promise the Germans victory, but it is more likely that we will repeat the experience of Verdun, where more than .100,1100 Germans have, been driven to death in order to take a couple of unimportant positions." VOYAGE OF THE DEUTSCHLAND. HER ARRIVAL DENIED. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association,) LONDON, August 20. The German Admiralty denies the reported arrival of the Deiltschland. It is stated that seven submarines of the Deutschlaud type are being built in Germany.
