FLAMES FIFTEEN HUNDRED FEET HIGH (Per Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 10, Taumaniniii reports to-day states that Ngaruahoe, on Mount Tongariro, last night-emitted flames 1500 feet high. The 'mountain is normal to-day. [Mount Tongariri Is situated to llio southward-of.'Lake Tnupo. It consists of n grolip .of distinct volcanic cones, tho lava slveaing from wlijcli li'iiw so overlapped in their descent as to form pnecompact' mountain moss nt the base. Tho highest of these cones Is callort-JNgnrua-lioe, and attains an. elevation of 7515 feet,' The craters of Ngaruahoe,, the-R«d Crater .(OHO,'feet;, and Te M/iri (4000 feet) are the three vents from which the latest;discharges of lava have taken place,[.the 1 most recent, having occurred in IS6S. craters iire still, active, steam'.and vapour Issuing from.them with considerable force and noise, the vapours, charged with puugent'.'gases and acids, making it. dangerous;to approach'too noarjhe crater lips,]
