CANTEBBUBY MABKETS. Per Press Association. "'"' I3HBIBTCIIUBCH, March 5. The Government's'preliminary estimate of 25.913 bushels as tljo wheat yield per acre for the current season's crop has given rise to considerable adverse comment, as it lias evidently been based upon information obtained before threshing had commenced. From reports to hand of the way the wheat crop in the Canterbury district is turning out, the yield for the province cannot bo less than 30 bushels per acre, and for the greater part of the area in wheat in other parts of the Dominion the crops, according to latest advices, should turn out almost equal to those in Canterbury, Estimates made at this particular period., unless somewhere near the mark, are likely to unduly affect the market, which has already readied au abnormally high level. Dmiujf flie week a number of sales of

wheal havo taken place as high as .7/per bushel, at country stations, tor .Tuscan, as well as for Pearl, though it is now said that this'figure may only be given in exceptional cases. Some growers who have been looking for 7/have only been able to obtain G/JU ami (i/Ji.

A gootl deal of dilliculty appears to have arisen between millers and the Government regarding the price of Hour made from imported wheat, in cases where the latter has been mixed with locally-grown wheat,.and the matter is not yet settled. The price, of Hour has been raised locally to £l7 10/- per ton for sacks, and to proportionately higher rates for smaller bags. Oats:—The market is keeping firm, and although there may be fewer buyeis prices arc rather better. "A" grade Cartons are selling at ;i/!(l to il/11, and "B" grade at :i/>S to .'!/!>, at country stations.

Tlioro is a good demand for barley at late rates, and there is no change' in oatsheat' c'liaff, which is quoted at £5 ;">/• to £5 10/- at country stations.

There is loss ompiiry for potatoes as the North'lsland main crop is now coming on the market, and Wellington and Auckland are being well supplied. The price is still £4 for delivery this month.
