Inspector Hugo arrived, in Oamaru yesterday, and last evening inspected the local Fire Brigade. The members were given practice exercises in reel and hose work, and. Mr J, Main, who judged the exhibition of vegetables and fruit at the Horticultural Society's show on Thursday night, questioned as to the quality*' of the .exhibits, said that though the entries were not so numerous as last year, the quality, considering the season experienced, was realty excellent, and was quite up to. the high standard of the previous years' exhibits. He made special reference to Mr A, Holding's exhibit, 'the' quality of all vegetables being good, and the staging of them .particularly effective.
