THE MAORI CONTINGENT
COMFORTS FOR TIIE TROOPS, AN APPEAL TO EUROPEANS. WELLINGTON; October'().■ Mr T. I'arata, member'for the Southern Maori' District, who,is,acting as secretary and treasurer to the committee of Native members'of Parliament that is assisting in the despatch of it Maori contingent to the war, is appealing for subscriptions to a fund that is being raised to provide comforts and accessories to the members of the'contingent. The Maoris in every part of the Dominion have given generous contributions to the war fund and to the other funds raised in connection with the Expeditionary Force, and Mr I'arata feels that their European fellow countrymen will be glad of an opportunity to show their appreciation of the Natives' action by helping in the present effort to send the Maori soldiers away under the very best conditions. Mr I'arata says lie would rather have ,C2Uoll subscribed in shillings than twice the amount in ten-poui'id notes, his desire being that the men should go abroad with the consciousness that tliev have the hearty good-will of the European people.
